About Jane

Originally from Bolton, ‘Where the M61 becomes cobbled’!  I started my career at Crest Hotels in 1981 and never moved out of the Sales Department. After a 5 year period with Best Western Hotels as a Regional Sales Manager and with my first little girl in tow I set up a Sales Consultancy Company which encompassed hotels from Carlisle to the Scilly Isles.  After a 3 year contract with Golden Tulip International, involving a fortnightly commute to Holland and fabulous worldwide travel my 2nd daughter was born and I decided more family time was called for.  I secured a contract with English Lakes Hotels in Windermere and stayed for 16 years, the latter 5 as Sales Director and as a member of the Board.  It was here that I met my husband Ean a General Manager of one of the properties.  My career has been a wonderful time of selling fantastic products to customers old and new and training staff to be the best they can at what they did.  I gave it up to foster a little boy at 17 days old who I handed over to is ‘forever mum’ when he was 18 months old.  It was another incredible experience, and we still offer respite to other children when we can.

Since taking over Wilf’s Event Catering in July 2009 we have travelled the country looking after orienteers/mountain bikers and runners to name a few.  We have now opened the café at Plumgarth’s next to the Farm shop which means people can sit on our couch in the lounge and not tins of tuna or pans!!  We will continue to expand the business and our team…….Monika our first Full time employee joined us in August……….and we intend to continue to have a fabulous time along with our customers.

About Ean

Originally from Haddington in East Lothian, I was brought up on a strawberry farm for my first 12 years.  I then moved West to Dunoon on the Clyde where I nearly became ‘Americanised’ (US Naval Base) before returning to Edinburgh 6 years later to study Hotel and Hospitality Management at University.  Having had an original career plan as a doctor, solicitor or maths teacher, like all hoteliers I fell into the industry.

My first of two employers was Forte Hotels where I ventured south across the border in 1985 to North Yorkshire, London, Wiltshire and finally back up north in 1991.  I left Forte to join English Lakes Hotels in 1991 to launch Lancaster House Hotel from a green field site, then 8 years later I took on the Low Wood Hotel overlooking Lake Windermere.

Jane and I met in 1996 as work colleagues and for many years since she has been my soul mate and sounding board, finally becoming my wife in 2008.  We have four fabulous daughters and many lovely foster children we look after and all share a fantastic life in Cumbria.  Our intention was always to ‘go it alone’ and now we look forward to building our business and looking after friends and clients.
